Brunei delegation heads to CONSAL XIV, Vietnam

A group of nine librarians from Brunei Darussalam led by Puan Nellie binti Dato Paduka Haji Sunny, the President of the Brunei Darussalam Library Association will leave for Hanoi, Vietnam to attend the CONSAL Executive Board Meeting and the Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians (CONSAL XIV) Conference to be held from 20 to 23 April 2009. The Congress is organised by the National Library of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Library Association. 800 participants have already registered for the conference.

The CONSAL conference is the largest regional gathering of librarians, organised every three years in each member country by turn. Brunei Darussalam hosted this event in 2003. The next host will be Indonesia. CONSAL promotes cooperation in the fields of librarianship, bibliography, documentation and related activities. Brunei Darussalam will present a paper entitled “Electronic Resources and Information Services: a digitisation experience at ITB Library” at this conference. Three books under the CONSAL Regional Project entitled “Directory of Islamic Libraries, Librarian and Library Awards and the Directory of CONSAL Executive Board Members and database led by the Brunei Darussalam Library Association (BLA) will be launched. Other books released by the BLA include a Register of Professional Librarians, Brunei Books in Publication 2008, National Library Associations of CONSAL and Library and Information Science Programmes in CONSAL member countries will also be launched.

The delegation is made up of BLA Executive Board Members, and librarians from the Universiti Brunei Darrussalam, Institut Teknologi Brunei, Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka Brunei, Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the Mosque Affairs Department and the Brunei History Centre
