‘Brunei, a Mysterious Haven’,

Written by Liu Xinsheng, China’s first ambassador to the Sultanate

THE re-edited version of a book introducing Brunei written by Liu Xinsheng, China’s first ambassador to Brunei, was yesterday officially loaded onto Yihua Net, a Brunei Chinese news portal.

Liu was China’s Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam from 1993-1998, and had previously also been based in other countries like Indonesia, the Philippines, and India.

He is currently the Deputy President of the China-Brunei Friendship Association (CBFA).

In conjunction with the World Expo in Shanghai last year, the China envoy published a book titled "Brunei, a Mysterious Haven", with the foreword of the book contributed by Brunei Ambassador to China, Magdalene Teo.

As the Chinese book introducing Brunei was only made available for sale in China and not in Brunei, Sim Chong Siang of Adison Marketing Services, also the Chief Editor of Yihua Net, decided to collaborate with the former China ambassador to come up with a similar version of the book titled "Brunei in the Eyes of a Diplomat".

The pictures for this online book were all provided by photographers from the Chinese news portal.

The online book has nine chapters:"A Faraway Land from Natural Disasters"; "Bits and Pieces about Brunei"; "Brunei Sultan’s Birthday"; "The Royal Wedding"; "Puasa and Iftar"; "Modern Etiquettes"; "The wonderful Life of Bruneians"; "Brunei Attractions"; and "Brunei Chinese".

According to Sim, writings of the former China ambassador to Brunei provided great insights into the culture, traditions, sceneries and attractions of Brunei.

Coupled with the hundreds of photos provided by Yihua Net, it represents a worthy read for anyone interested to know more about the Sultanate.

The book can now be read online at: http://www.e-huawang.com/v2/book/default.html.
