JIS hosts Book Week to encourage reading among younger generation

Jerudong International School’s (JIS) annual Book Week, sponsored by the Radisson Hotel, Brunei and Early Childhood Publications started yesterday, with a theme ‘A Picture Paints a Thousand Words’.

The Book Week focuses on visual literacy and visual techniques to teach across the school, and aims to encourage young people to read more widely, ready a variety of different formatted books and to gain a love of literature.

The school is also excited to host authors/illustrators, Liz Million and Sonia Leong. Liz Million will run workshops for all classes in the Junior School and is well-known for her lovely, bright children’s picture books. Sonia Leong will conduct workshops and talks for all the secondary school students and read from her well-known manga illustrated version of William Shakespeare’s adapted ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

The Principal of JIS, Mr Andre Fowler-Watt said, "Students at JIS are very excited to have visual literacy as the focus for our Book Week, and we are really looking forward to the workshops and activities being planned for the campus."
