The Conference organized by the National Library Indonesia and the Indonesia Library Association was held on 29-31 May 2012 in Kartika Discovery Plaza Hotel, Bali, Indonesia. The theme was “National Heritage; Preservation and Dissemination”. It was attended by over 700 participants from CONSAL member countries.

Conference events:

3RD Meeting of CONSAL XV Executive Board on 28 May 2012 at the Discovery Room,

Kartika Discovery Plaza Hotel

It was presided over by Ms Sri Sularsih, Director National Library Indonesia as CONSAL Chair and attended by three members from each CONSAL member country. Timor Leste was also in attendance. Brunei Darussalam was represented by Ms Nellie BLA President, Ms Hjh Rosnani BLA Hon Secretary and Mr Hj Sahari Chief Librarian Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei.

Brunei Darussalam launched a book “Islam in Southeast Asia: A Cultural Bibliography” during the meeting. It was a two year project led by Brunei Darussalam with inputs from Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. Copies were handed over to Head of Delegations. Brunei Darussalam also submitted another two new project proposals for the next two years. Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore also submitted new project proposals.

Before the meeting ended a handing over ceremony of seed money to the Thai Library Association as the next host was held.

Welcome Dinner for CONSAL EB members and CDNLAO members

In the evening a Welcome Dinner was held at Nusa Dua Hotel.

Opening and Closing of Conference

The Opening Ceremony was held on 29 May 2012 at the Kharisma Ballroom of Kartika Discovery Plaza Hotel. Ms Sri Sularsih, CONSAL Chair delivered the Welcome Address followed by a speech by the Governor of Bali Province. The Opening and Keynote was delivered by the Coordinating Minister of People’s Welfare. After the opening, the chief guest and other guests proceeded to the pavilion where an IT exhibition was held.

The Conference was held in plenary and break-up sessions. A half-day product presentation session was also held.

In the evening a welcome dinner was held in the hotel’s helipad area.

The closing ceremony was held on 30 May 2012. The CONSAL Chair thanked all the EB members, speakers and participants and this was followed by the presentation of the CONSAL Outstanding Librarian Award. Before the close of the ceremony, the CONSAL Chair handed over the CONSAL Chairmanship and Flag to Khunying Maenmas Chavlit, President Thai Library Association as Thailand becomes the next host in 2015.

Gala Night

The Gala night was held at the Bali Arts Centre, a beautiful complex with an open air amphitheatre for cultural performances. After a sumptuous dinner, all participants moved to the amphitheatre for a colourful, entertaining show put up by the various delegations. The grand finale was performed by Indonesia.

Post Conference tours

The delegates enjoyed a half day tour to Tanah Lot Rock Temple.


The Brunei Darussalam delegation wish to extend its congratulations to Indonesia for a successful meeting and conference and to say a big thank you for the warm hospitality accorded to us, the excellent arrangements made for our comfortable stay in beautiful Bali, to the untiring liaison officers who met us upon arrival and sent us off and all other committee members and the secretariat who met our many needs and wants. As special thanks to Zulfikar, Woro, Nori and Teguh.
